Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many plants, including cannabis. There are over 100 different terpenes in cannabis, each with its unique aroma and potential effects (additional research pending). Terpenes are produced in the trichomes of the cannabis plant (along with cannabinoids like THC and CBD).  They are responsible for the distinct aromas and flavors of different cannabis strains. Beyond their sensory contributions, terpenes may also interact with cannabinoids, potentially influencing the overall effects of cannabis. This interaction is often referred to as the “entourage effect” (more research is required in this area).  Terpenes are a tangible measure of cannabis–you can easily smell and taste them.  This is a great way to go beyond the THC/CBD/cannabinoid numbers on the jar and tailor your cannabis preferences, just follow your nose!
