Concentrates + Dabs

Concentrates are the type of extract you dab. This is a very niche category. Concentrates come in a bunch of different forms (resin, rosin, shatter, budder, diamonds, sauce–there is always something new!) with various methods of extraction (where the trichomes are removed from the buds).

If you were looking for extracts you smoke, check out the Hash category. That would be where you would find the gummy old school and dry sift hash you would add to a joint.

What is a dab?

A dab is the act of touching concentrate to a hot surface creating vapour that gets inhaled.

Both are extracts but here are the differences:
HOW IT’S CONSUMED: Hash is intended to be smoked (in a pipe or joint) whereas concentrates are intended to be vaporized at a high temperature (using a rig or enail).
HOW IT’S MADE:  Hash tends to be made from an ice water or dry sift extraction and will still contains trace amounts of plant material which gives it a lower point of combustion (requiring only a lighter, like any joint or pipe).  Concentrates are usually made with some sort of solvent and/or heat and pressure and have a super high combustion point (which leads it to need vaporizing at a high temperature to be consumed properly).
HOW IT TASTES:  Both have a concentrated flavour of whatever cannabis it was extracted from. Hash tastes like a stronger version of the flower it was extracted from (because hash is simply a collection of trichomes with some plant material in it).  Concentrates tend to be more complex ranging from no flavour (like dry diamonds) to an intense concentration of the input (because there is even less plant material burning than regular hash).  Concentrates also sometimes have terpenes readded to them to modify the flavour.
STRENGTH:  Hash contains plant material and usually maxes out at 40-45% THC.  Concentrates should contain no plant material and max out over 95%+ THC (meaning either twice the strength or you need much less).
ACCESSORIES REQUIRED:  With hash you need as little as a paper or pipe. Concentrates need a dab tool, rig (or at minimum a bong with a torch and rig attachments like a banger), or an enail,  The initial outset for accessories is a lot more than just hash.

You inhale a dab like any smokable or vaporizable product.  It goes from your lungs into your bloodstream.  It is significantly more strong than smoked cannabis, requiring you to use much less (a single dab might be stronger than a whole joint for some people).

Dabs are controversial because nerds think they look a bit sketchy (you use a blowtorch or super hot nail, it’s a whole thing). Some use solvents and can be dangerous to make at home (which is why it is extra important to have these made in a professional environment).
