Week 6: First topping, everything looks okay!

Week 6: First topping, everything looks okay!

Posted by Jennawae McLean on 2020 Jan 10th

Strains in the tents:  White Widow, Spanish Mango, Juice Box, Ayahuasca Purple.

Grow method:  Indoor SCROG (although the screen is not on yet) with LED.

LED Details:  2x California Lightworks 1100 + 2x California Lightworks 550, on our VEG 2 setting of 85: Red, 99 White, 99 Blue for 18 hours.

Gear I am using:  Pure Tents, California Lightworks 1100s and 550s LEDs and controller, Pure Pots (20 gallon), Promix HP, solo cups in various sizes, Lock Down Pads, Green House Powder Feed.

Today is the first day I topped most of the plants.  Here is a quick article to help you understand topping better...but basically we do it to change the structure of the plant from a Christmas tree (with one central cola sucking up all the energy) to more of a bush (with all surface buds sucking up equal energy).  It's very important for the SCROG method (which I do) to have as flat a canopy as possible.  All are taking well with watering a little bit but more often (a sprinkling every other day).  I turned the dehumidifier back on just to make sure everything dries out before I water again.  This is my last week at this setting.  Next week I will be turning up the red and reducing the light hours down to 18 on.  These girls better enjoy their time in the "sun"!

Strain name:  Spanish Mango
Genetics:  An early phenotype of Soma's Somango bred out by a friend in the North of Spain.
Flowering time:  8-9 weeks
Yield per m2:  Average
Level of difficulty: Medium
Notes:  I am inclined to drop the level of difficulty on this strain down because it has been a total breeze and is looking awesome!  I am super pumped to get this one going!  This one was very easy to top and is looking nice and healthy!

Strain name:  White Widow
Genetics:  Brazilian X South Indian
Flowering time:  8-9 weeks
Yield per m2:  Heavy
Level of difficulty:  Easy
Notes: I am considering making this strain a MEDIUM difficulty level because it is just growing in such a bizarre way!  Rounded edges with no serration!  The leaves aren't curling but they aren't developing to extensions (thing of a hand clawed vs. extended fingers).  If I don't see some progress I am going to murder this one still.  It's still really early to diagnose so I will just wait another week or 2 and see where we go.

Strain name:  Ayahuasca Purple
Genetics:  Red River Delta X Masterkush
Flowering time:  9 weeks
Yield per m2:  Heavy
Level of difficulty:  Easy
Notes:  My strongest of the bunch is growing nicely with quite a bit of internodal spacing!  When we turn up the red next week I am going to watch for additional stretching!  Stretching is fine because we are doing the SCROG method--this tent I predict now will fill up the quickest of the 4.

Strain name:  Juice Box
Genetics:  (Cannalope Haze X Juanita La Lagrimosa) X Jack The Ripper
Flowering time:  10 weeks
Yield per m2:  Average
Level of difficulty:  Medium
Notes: I also would be interested in downgrading this one to easy--both it and the back up are taking really well and looking incredibly healthy!  I am happy with the progress overall!
