Week 15: First time using the BOOST!

Posted by Jennawae McLean on 2020 Mar 12th

Strains in the tents: White Widow, Spanish Mango, Juice Box, Ayahuasca Purple.

Grow method: Indoor SCROG with LED.

LED Details: 2x California Lightworks 1100 + 2x California Lightworks 550, on our VEG 3 setting of 90: Red, 99 White, 90 Blue for 18 hours.

Gear I am using: Pure Tents, California Lightworks 1100s and 550s LEDs and controller, Pure Pots (20 gallon), Promix HP, solo cups in various sizes, Lock Down Pads, Greenhouse Powder Feed, Organic Reactor

If there is one thing our years in the cannabis game has given us, it is the wonderful relationships we have built with various companies all over the world.  Our friends at the Green House Seed Company sent me some samples of their powder feed.   Full disclosure:  I didn't pay for these samples BUT I tried/wanted to.  I have always used their short-flowering or hybrid feed but now they sent me a new bag of their Booster PK+ formula in addition to the Hybrid powder feed I've been using.  It comes with a super convenient and adorable little measuring scoop.  The Booster is a boost of phosphorus and potassium (no nitrogen) which helps make big, resin covered buds!  I just do one scoop of each into my regular watering container (which luckily happens to be the exact ratio required) and feed it every other water.  I have also continued to do a dusting of Organic Reactor (which I am tapering off in the next week or so) to keep everything healthy.  Everything is doing well after pruning and now my focus is strictly on the developing buds.  I want to make sure they have enough space and airflow, that there is nothing blocking out the light.  Every visit I am popping off any offending leaves  (and anything that is looking too yellow).  Now that we have reduced light hours, the plants think that it's fall--so its very natural to start seeing colour change at this point.

Strain name: Spanish Mango
Genetics: An early phenotype of Soma's Somango bred out by a friend in the North of Spain.
Flowering time: 8-9 weeks
Yield: Average
Level of difficulty: Medium

All the flowers on my Spanish Mango are looking great.  I gave her a heavy dose of Organic Reactor after I gave her a mullet to fill the canopy in.  It has been working a little too well so I have had to prune quite a bit (this is the before, obviously).  A super strong hashy floral smell is coming from this tent.  I think the buds are going to be really nice.

Strain name: White Widow
Genetics: Brazilian X South Indian
Flowering time: 8-9 weeks
Yield: Heavy
Level of difficulty: Easy

Right now my White Widow is smelling more green than skunky coffee, at least in this very moment.  Right now the bud development is very little with not much stacking.  I'll be surprised if I get chonky buds out of this one, I'm expecting them to be on the smaller side (its just a hunch--we'll see how they start to stack over the next couple weeks!

Strain name: Ayahuasca Purple
Genetics: Red River Delta X Masterkush
Flowering time: 9 weeks
Yield: Heavy
Level of difficulty: Harder than I expected

I've gone ahead and upgraded my "level of difficulty" to "harder than I expected" because this strain has been the most annoying thing I have ever grown (and I have done a LOT of autos!  I tightened up the screen a little bit to help spread out the buds but its just growing so weirdly (and there is nothing I could do to potentially change it).  The buds and leaves are all crowding each other, and now that we're so far into flowering I can't really stretch them out any more.  This is the worst strain I have ever scrogged.  I'm so annoyed I can't even.  The smell of the buds is a saving grace--this smells really jammy and sweet.  So I'm living with it but planning on taking it down first just so I don't have to look at it anymore.  It is NOT purple at all!  I'll just be feeding it begrudgingly over the next couple weeks.

Strain name: Juice Box
Genetics: (Cannalope Haze X Juanita La Lagrimosa) X Jack The Ripper
Flowering time: 10 weeks
Yield: Average - Heavy
Level of difficulty: Medium

I'm happy with how this girl's stacking up.  I expect REALLY chonky buds from her.  The fruity smell is coming through big time.  It's like a tropical fruit and sugar.  Really sweet, really fruity.  The leaves are changing most on this one (partially because last week I left the dehumidifier too close to her and she got thirsty real quick--which led to leaves dying--and partially because she thinks its autumn).  I'm going to continue to defoliate paying special attention to under the screen--there are little buds trying to grow again!
