Week 12: Last week of veg for sure!

Posted by Jennawae McLean on 2020 Feb 21st

Strains in the tents: White Widow, Spanish Mango, Juice Box, Ayahuasca Purple.

Grow method: Indoor SCROG with LED.

LED Details: 2x California Lightworks 1100 + 2x California Lightworks 550, on our VEG 3 setting of 90: Red, 99 White, 90 Blue for 18 hours.

Gear I am using: Pure Tents, California Lightworks 1100s and 550s LEDs and controller, Pure Pots (20 gallon), Promix HP, solo cups in various sizes, Lock Down Pads, Greenhouse Powder Feed.

This is going to be the last week of veg for sure.  So far my goals have been to grow leafy plants that stretch to the outer corners of the tent.  Now my goal is to make sure there is at least one flowering head in each square of the screen (but can be as many as 2 or 3 at this point).  Ultimately I'm going to be trimming everything that doesn't quite meet the screen at about 10 days into flowering so I want to encourage all the leaves not getting as much light to get to the top as quickly as they can.  Remember the goal with a SCROG is to make every bud a top bud.  With this method there are no traditional side branches, everything gets an equal amount of light energy (which makes the buds consistently large).  We will also continue to stretch to the outer edge for the first 10 days of flowering.   A day or two after flowering heads come I usually stop and start pruning.  I am continuing to water and feed really heavily.  Once flowers come humidity is a concern.

Strain name: Spanish Mango
Genetics: An early phenotype of Soma's Somango bred out by a friend in the North of Spain.
Flowering time: 8-9 weeks
Yield: Average
Level of difficulty: Medium
Notes:  While this is more broad-leafed (or in my opinion the only appropriate use for the term "indica"), I am finding the Mango is filling up the tent really well. I have only done light pruning to get the flowering heads into each square of the screen but it is still being pushed up a bit which is a pain.  Next round I'll be looking at thinner leafed "hybrids" and "sativas".  If you don't know why I'm using quotes read THIS article.

Strain name: White Widow
Genetics: Brazilian X South Indian
Flowering time: 8-9 weeks
Yield: Heavy
Level of difficulty: Easy
Notes:  My fave grow so far this round.  Other than the weird start this one smells the best and is growing the best.  It's amazing.  The canopy has been really even and strong.  Almost all the squares are filled and what started the slowest has become the overall leader.

Strain name: Ayahuasca Purple
Genetics: Red River Delta X Masterkush
Flowering time: 9 weeks
Yield: Heavy
Level of difficulty: Easy
Notes:

This one has been a pain to SCROG with huge broad leaves constantly pushing up the screen which is about as annoying as feeling your stockings roll down just to constantly pull them back up.  So stretching to the outer edge on this one has been especially difficult.  In the end I'm sure it will yield the same as the others, but wahhh, its annoying.  I can't wait to prune this one.

Strain name: Juice Box
Genetics: (Cannalope Haze X Juanita La Lagrimosa) X Jack The Ripper
Flowering time: 10 weeks
Yield: Average - Heavy
Level of difficulty: Medium
Notes:  While this one has required extra feeding it is also closest to the dehumidifier and is drying out insanely quickly.  At this point I lift the pots to see when they need water.  If they are still heavy they can be left alone.  These pots feel light as air every 2 days.  I am for SURE moving the dehumidifier closer to another tent but I have NOT been able to overwater this one yet.  There are a few under leaves that need to be pulled out, so don't mind those!
