Welcome to our first week of flower! This happened about a month later than I had originally planned because of all the pest issues we had this go around. So the lights are now on for only 12 hours a day, and off for 12 hours (to mimic the light levels during fall). Full photoperiod plants (meaning non-autoflowering varieties) NEED this flip in order to start flowering. If you keep the lights on for over 16 hours a day, they will veg indefinitely (the first White Widow mother is still alive in veg in a basement in Europe). I have my lights on overnight (when hydro rates are at their lowest) so I can only go into my garden from 7PM - 7AM. Light leaks can cause plants to stress and turn hermaphrodidic (displaying buds and pods for seeds). Avoid light disruptions in dark hours.
You will also notice that I increased the Red level on the spectrum (because Red is great for stretching and flowering) and decreased the Blue (which is good for veg growth and also terpene production--in a couple weeks we will turn this one back up!). White levels stayed the same because it is just there to fill in the spectrum between Red and Blue.
Now that we are into flower we are noticing a lot of stretch in the buds. This week I am focusing on the last few tucks (and getting all my squares filled). I am still watering really heavily because I want as many sprouts as I can get before next week, when I start pruning everything below the canopy after day 10 of flower (which is around next Wednesday). At that point I will be fully stripping the plants for anything that doesn't reach the screen. This is in an effort to focus all growing energy and any water and nutrients directly at the bud sites on top (of which there will be many). My house is starting to stink too. At this point you would probably consider adding a carbon filter if you wanted to be discrete. I know the Sour Key OG and the Pineapple Express are the main offenders (or blessings, depending on how you look at it), and I can usually smell them from the street. But I also have quite a big growing. For 4 plants the odour is generally pretty minimal.
Strain name: Sour Key OG
Genetics: Amnesia Haze X (Super Lemon Haze X OG Kush)
Flowering time: 8-9 weeks
Level of difficulty: Medium
Notes: Tent 1 is completely filled up--the first to do it. That means I don't have to do any more tucking and weaving in this tent! That also means from now on they are just going to stretch and anything above the screen line is going to be all buds! Tent 2 with the different phenotypes also is filling out well and maybe only has a couple days of tucking left in it!
Flowering time: 8-9 weeks
Level of difficulty: Easy
Notes: I realized that I have my screen in this tent the highest of all. It's like a full foot and a half higher than the others. How stoned was I when I put it in? Anyways, because I have it so high I expect that most but not all squares will be filled. This is as always the most vigorous of my bunch. I will seriously struggle to NOT do this one on my next grow. I just love growing it so much.
